Super Buddy
As you lay between my legs
I feel your frail body twitch.
Every time I have to check
For the rise and fall of breath.
Your body has been failing
But your mind is still intact.
You are such a fighter and
I admire you for that.
I watch you like a hawk and
Notice every new sign.
I know your end is coming
But it's clear you want more time.
This is very different
Than the end with Little Girl.
I noticed so much sooner
That something was going wrong
Suppose the good piece of that
I am getting some more time.
To show how much I love you
And take lots of photographs
Though it is impossible
To completely comprehend
How much pain you are feeling
But a part of life is death.
Each time I think it's over
You show me you're still alive.
The couple counter jump fails
You got on your second try.
It is too late to save you
So much damage has been done.
I refuse to stress you out
Letting nature run its course.
I have a backup plan but
Hope it doesn't come to that.
I know you don't like needles
I can't do that in my room.
Although it may seem selfish
I want what is best for you.
We have time to say goodbye
I have endless love for you
We can learn from every choice
And this is no exception.
So much death, so little time,
But I will find the lesson.
